The Castle Complex.  In this aerial view, we can see the Men's Slave Yard behind Bance Island House, and the much smaller Womens and Children's Slave Yard behind it. There is an elevated walkway on the north side of the slave yards where armed guards could observe the captives in both yards below. The wooden walkway has decayed, but its existence is clearly indicated by a long groove in the exterior wall running horizontally about 7 feet above the ground. The long, one-story building opposite the slave yards contained a kitchen where food was prepared for the captives and a blacksmith's shop for making the iron shackles and chains used to immobilize the captives in the Men's Slave Yard.
